Personal Interpretations

Meant to be//
True Love//
Soul Mate//

What do these idioms mean?
I thought I knew…
I thought I felt some of these
to be true…
By no means, do I believe
that they mean the same thing.

One of my earlier pieces describing a soul mate
depicted that each soul is created with 2 halves.
Upon birth these souls separate, and their “Sole”
purpose (see what I did there? lol) throughout our
lives is to find its other half. I believed that,
being with someone and feeling incomplete or empty
inside was your soul’s way of telling you, though you
may feel happy, this is not the one…
I don’t, however, feel that a soul mate is someone
who is required to be romantically involved with you.
I do feel, that they are someone that you need in your life,
someone that needs to be close, near and dear to your heart.
Someone who, through thick and thin can and will be there for you;
every step of the way, and vice versa.
Monogamy, would  be ideal though…

That is my interpretation of a Soul Mate…
Yours may be depicted differently, and that’s fine,
because it is different for everyone…

True love~

For me, True Love means, selflessness, and sacrifice,
It means, not looking for anything in return,
It can be unrequited, Or reciprocated.
It means, giving your all, just to see someone else happy
time, and time again. True love is both simplicity, and complexity.
True love is when your heart still skips a beat after
years for no other reason than a simple thought…
Goosebumps, just from the sound of a voice…
True love is forever, infinite, everlasting.
It bears all the pain and regret of the past, endures the present,
and holds fast to triumph over the future.
True love is….

(*I’ve just had an Epiphany, I’m such an idiot…)

Anyways….

Meant to be…
You hear this a lot, meant to be, “destined to happen.”
I don’t believe anything is pre-determined, at least not anymore…
It may seem contradictory
to my belief of what a soul mate is…
But, as far as life goes, I don’t believe in any type of destiny.
I don’t believe that we as a people, are born with only one path in front of us.
I believe life presents us with choices, and options and we choose our own paths..
Therefore, how can one say something as such?
“Meant to be” Nothing is ever meant to be…
However given choices made, and resolved decisions, I do believe
we can think things are meant to happen, given hard work and dedication. We mean for certain things to happen.
Meant to “be”, on the other hand… just, it sounds like, its in existence. It’s there, just waiting, whatever it is, just biding its time. Inevitable regardless of steps taken to procure one path or another,
or steps taken, and obstacles overcome to reach it… regardless, its there waiting to materialize.

destiny

We can’t assume that we know what is meant to be. We don’t know how the universe works. We don’t know what life has to offer, we can’t read, into the future… and that, that is why, nothing is meant to be… I believe people often times mistake:

“What’s meant to be”

with

“What’s expected to happen…”

Think about it… Society has a set of standards.
Each individual has their own set of morals.
As a generalization people conform with the standards set forth by society. Rationalizing the daily agenda as,
“What is it I need to do as a productive member of society?”
“What do I need to do pertaining to the standards of society?”
There is a certain flow of things.
Grow up&go to school, get a job, get married, reproduce, die.
In that order, and more specifically, day to day, there is the social construct in which we abide.
And that, that is what we base our outlook on, our decisions, our lives.

Nothing, is meant to be… We choose our paths, we make it possible for situations to materialize, or manifest as we see fit. Often times things don’t work as we have meticulously planned, and things we thought were meant to be, simply weren’t… Whether we saw it this way or not, whether we can re-rationalize our thoughts, and move onto a new goal, or not… These things, they weren’t meant to be, we expected them to happen; only to be disappointed. Only now you’re left with many more options, many other paths to choose from, or paths to make for yourself. Opportunity…
